The EU System-driven Semiconductor Initiative (ESSI) is a think tank uniting industry experts from the European semiconductor ecosystem and system makers. Its mission is to identify and promote practical, high-impact actions to maximize the economic value generated by European semiconductor products. By fostering closer alignment between semiconductor R&D efforts and system makers’ needs, ESSI aims to strengthen Europe’s position in the global semiconductor landscape.
ESSI’s Four Foundational Recommendations?
To accelerate Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem, ESSI proposes four key actions:

Assemble and fund an expert industry team to bridge semiconductor products with system applications, ensuring faster market deployment;

Develop strategic EU infrastructures to facilitate the adoption of European chips in system design, AI services, and edge-to-cloud connectivity;

Expand EU R&D funding to include chip-to-system acceleration projects, recognizing the importance of innovation in chip qualification and industrialization; and
-
Establish an insurance fund to mitigate early-stage investment risks in semiconductor adoption.
